Dr Simon Hargreaves
Dr Simon Hargreaves has been a GP principal in St Helens since 1997. He has a broad based clinical experience in primary care, secondary care, and the private sector. His specialist clinical interest is dermatology. Having worked in the secondary care sector, he has recently been involved in redesigning the patient pathway and implementing a GPwSI post. In this role, he has held regular workshops to update local GPs in dermatology. He has also established a private practice in cosmetic dermatology.
Dr Hargreaves has taken on the mantle of GP training within his 6-partner practice. This involves video consultation assessment and assistance with audit. He is also the lead GP within the practice for 4th year medical student training. He examines at their Final Examinations.
As the GP-lead for clinical governance for the PCG, he supported and encouraged clinicians to provide good quality, safe clinical care. He implemented practice and professional development plans. He held open meetings and visited practices to listen to opinions of colleagues and to disseminate information relating to their practice. He is currently a QOF assessor for Halton and St Helens PCT. He has experience of appraising the suitability of hospital posts for GP registrars and SHO training as a Joint Hospital Visitor for the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). He has spoken and led workshops on quality aspects of the New Contract. He undertakes independent medical advisory work and written reports for neighbouring PCTs on poor performance within general practice. He is a member of Mid-Mersey LMC. He has recently completed a national 12 month “Leadership Course” run by the RCGP.
